chat with matthew

MATTHEW says: (2:51:38 PM)
   i'm over winter already

MATTHEW says: (2:51:41 PM)
   and it hasn't started

MATTHEW says: (2:51:47 PM)
but at least the raptors are good this year

MATTHEW says: (2:51:48 PM)
   lol

Pac Man says: (2:56:17 PM)
oh man...they are so so bad

MATTHEW says: (2:56:42 PM)
the worst...but you know what? they are actually fun to watch, even though all they know how to do is lose...

MATTHEW says: (2:56:49 PM)
a tleast the games are somewhat exciting...

MATTHEW says: (2:57:35 PM)
they lit up the heat...too bad they are going to lose every game they play on the west coast now...

Pac Man says: (2:58:24 PM)
oh man...so many losses on the way

Pac Man says: (2:58:57 PM)
i made the dumbest bet during preseason

Pac Man says: (2:59:16 PM)
bet my friend a nice dinner that the raptors would win 30 games this year

MATTHEW says: (3:00:38 PM)
shit man...no chance of that happening...if they win 20 they will be lucky

MATTHEW says: (3:00:42 PM)
they way they are playing at least

Pac Man says: (3:01:14 PM)
   yeah

MATTHEW says: (3:01:50 PM)
but who knows...maybe they will go all nuts and win like 15 games straight...they've done weirder more random things before

Pac Man says: (3:02:17 PM)
haha yeah it wouldn't completely surprise me

Pac Man says: (3:02:34 PM)
but most likely they'll lose lots of games and they'll all be close

MATTHEW says: (3:02:49 PM)
yeah...a bunch of 6 point losses for the rest of the season

MATTHEW says: (3:03:01 PM)
enough that people still want to watch, but never actually winning

MATTHEW says: (3:03:05 PM)
   its the raptors way

Pac Man says: (3:03:16 PM)
   yeah bahd

Pac Man says: (3:03:30 PM)
   the real winners are us

Pac Man says: (3:03:39 PM)
the diehard fans who have no expectations

MATTHEW says: (3:04:06 PM)
its true...once you stop caring whether or not you win, you can really enjoy games a lot more

MATTHEW says: (3:04:08 PM)
   so much fun

MATTHEW says: (3:04:18 PM)
when they play well, you cheer, when they suck, you laugh

Pac Man says: (3:04:23 PM)
   yep

MATTHEW says: (3:04:26 PM)
but you still end p watching like every televised game

Pac Man says: (3:04:37 PM)
and even when the other team does well?? i don't get mad

Pac Man says: (3:04:44 PM)
i'm like good job other team

MATTHEW says: (3:04:57 PM)
   haha...most pragmatic basketball fans ever

Kells, Kells, Kells

The R Kelly Trapped in the Closet DVD came out this week and I have to try and find words to express how much watching this cinematic masterpiece changed my life.

Nothing compares in terms of sheer absurdity and addictiveness(is that even a word?)...He's a lunatic/genius and I can't wait for the next 20 parts...I figure since he has tons of cash he can ride this wave as long as he wants and not really have to worry about the financial reprocussions.

We're going to try and make T.I.T.C. like Rocky Horror Picture Show out here and play it in theatres and act out the parts...you know on some cult classic shit??

All i can say is go buy it...give it for a gift...invite people over to watch it....immerse yourself in the world of madness that The "R" has created for us. It don't get much better than that.

taco party!

had hatch and jacob over for vegan tacos tonight...it was a male bonding type of event with lots of story telling and farting
the tacos were the shit...sprouted grain tortillas and vegan soya jalapeno cheddar..so great but now i'm mad full

saigon is a really good rapper i wonder if he is a nice guy too

10 November, 2005

it's official

I will never have those tennis ball alife pumps
they only made 48 pairs of them and i'm definitely not important enough to have one of those 48 pairs so i'll just continue with my normal guy with midlevel hookups life

also..i started a myspace page for the store and it's off the hook..i just add anyone who is a rap star/designer/store or has a picture of shoes and so far it's been a worthwhile pursuit.
the store is friends with twista and trina and other fun american rappers

it snowed today for like 10 minutes which was laaaaAME
i ate lentil soup with hot sauce and got a belly massage from my cat..didn't even have to pay her for it

luckily it was only temporary and i got to watch smush parker whup some denver ass along with the rest of the lakers

lamar odom will have a career season...mark my words

also...after falling asleep i was woken up at 4:30am by the sound of a door slamming...so I jumped out of bed on some i'm gonna get you sucka revenge type tip in case someone just broke in...lo and behold it was just the wind blowing open my backdoor which is closed by a deadbolt??

wtf

02 November, 2005

a tennis ball diss appointment

edited because the internet is scary and somehow people can actually read stuff you write

*coles notes version*
i'm not getting the alife pumps because i'm not important enough and i heard there's only 48 pairs

annoying phone guy

I really want the phone number to Alife Vancouver so I can flip the script and be the annoying guy that calls every week to find out when a shoe drops...I know since I love it so much and since they're a new shop I can break them in for the future of calls they'll be innundated with.

in other news, my man D has been cooking up some mean mean designs for shoes...hopefully by Holiday 06 you'll see a GDFT X NIKE. I'm totally not crossing my fingers or going to a ranch counting unborn chickens at this point but (souls of mischief)You NEVER Know(souls of mischief)

All you Montreal fuckers have to come out to my night at Blizzarts every Tuesday...it's young but poppin and will continue to get better as we try and define the identity and actually give this city a spot for people to chill and floss simultaneously.

watched the first raptors game tonight..

basically they played like a great team until the 4th quarter which pretty much sums up the problems they've always had...no matter who they bring in as players, coaches, gms, etc...they're still going to lose games the same damn way

i'ma update with my sneaker pimps photos soon I swear

29 October, 2005

insert expression of astonishment here

holy fucknuckles
if this whole shoe is tennis ball material i'm going to lose it

i don't even think i have an alife hookup this could get ugly
i'll trade a pair of whatever for these if someone has the link

Sketchy Beaters/Crazy kids

if you aren't from Toronto you probably have no idea what that term beater even means but picture dirty white avirex sneakers with a hit of carolina blue, jeans with random patches on them tucked into socks and fake ice resting over a jersey or johnny blaze hoodie coupled with the preteen moustache and you've pretty much got it.

so these sketchy beaters were in here today and i for realz thought they were going to try and steal some shit but luckily me tossing them minor 'tude led to them getting frustrated and leaving

i even called for backup just in case but as soon as i did the beaters bounced....i hate confrontation so it's probably better this way.

i'm glad my neighbours are so on point though and would drop what they are doing to come help me if some shit really did go down in here.

right now however there's the polar opposite in the store...a quirky colourful coated french mom and her monotone but probably a graphic artist husband and their hyperactive 2-3 year old in galoshes bouncing around like a maniac...

although there was no risk of having anything stolen there was also no chance of anything being sold so really which encounter brings more fulfillment?

27 October, 2005

You gonna give me a nice price. right?

OH yeah...definitely Mr. I just came in the store for the first time and have gay dress shoes on and a peacoat...I'll give you a great price...It's called retail plus tax.

There must have been a lot of bargaining about price when the sailors came and did their dirty business with the imported french whores, causing the residents of this city to have a genetic disposition towards feeling like they are owed a better deal than what the tag says.

I mean I'm against paying retail as much as the next guy but I try and earn my hookup by showing that i'm serious and will buy lots of shit from a store and support them...or just try and pitch a little tradesies.

Alist was just asking me if I did a lot of trading as a kid since I'm a wizard with stock shifting now....and I honestly had to say that I didn't really do any trading until I got into shoes...he replied that I missed out on a lot of good trading back in the days of our youth.

Speaking of shoes....sneaker pimps was super fresh and I have a shitload of pictures to upload once they're resized...stay tuned.

bomb defusing

the shelves at goodfoot SUCK

seriously they're nice to look at and a phenomenal concept that no one in the world is fucking with...basically the best way to display sneakers ever

BUT..you'd look at them differently if you had to clean them inside and out

lifting off the heavy glass carefully and then cleaning inside where dust pretty much will never leave and every streak is mirrored back and forth...so impossible to tell which side the streaks are on..

i'll quote my man toddy flores aka KID K.I.C.K.S who said "I'd rather be one of those guys that installs steel beams when they are building skyscrapers than doing this shit"

honestly it's not all glamour and glitz at the foot

having first crack at de la souls kinda evens it out but cleaning those shelves is seriously one of the worst things I've ever done in my whole life

17 October, 2005

folks get down

ok so a couple months ago wifey and I went to see Roy Ayers at the Cabaret Music Hall
show was off the wallet chain..very small crowd because it was promoted poorly and so it felt very intimate

roy was very engaging and displayed true showmanship...he had the crowd captivated the entire time

his band was tight too...even the weird r kelly/samuel l jackson dude who was doing backup vocals or playing the tambourine or some shit

anyways the point of this post is that at intermission(hip hop shows need these) roy and the posse were selling cd's...we copped one called Sunshine Man which is new arrangements of classic Roy Ayers songs...only because the Roy Ayers/Rick James collab cd was sold out already(which was a lie because at the end of the night one of the band members was like there's one left..we'll sell it for $40..WTF?)

so i just popped in this cd for the first time without any real expectations...and it's like the kenny g/warren g remixes of Roy's shit....so bad and electronic sounding....i know this fool had reissues...why not just bring those?

but the show was great so i forgive him in a sense...and in his defense the vibes still sound good it's just the rest of the music on this album that's so corny

16 October, 2005

some did all 32 and paid a heavy ass cost

show your grill if you're real
show your grill if you're real
show your grill if you're real
and your diamonds are trill

show your golds if you're bold
show your golds if you're bold
show your golds if you're bold

sheeeit i know this boy with 1 gold no ice
i know a %!&&@ who got robbed and bought the same teeth twice

BUN B is/has been/will be the best. His new album comes out this week and people should buy it because he actually seems like a really humble and happy guy to have made it this far in the music industry. check out the interview with him on Matt aka Houstonsoreal's blog

for some reason my links in a post don't work...so annoying

http://houstonsoreal.blogspot.com

this the type shit i used to do(young zee quote fool!)

it's been over 10 months since i drank and almost 10 months since i smoked any weed
can't say i miss either

i still go out, still hang with people getting crunk and don't feel like an outcast or overly judgemental of my crunked out pals so fuck it

i'm enjoying the ride so may as well stay on the bus

nahmean?

15 October, 2005

eeeeeat good

THIS

IS
DINNER

fuk that i'm born to roam until the end of this life

gotta give it up to da grassroots...that album although completely slept on contains some major songs that will stay having rotation for me

even their first single and stuff they did for ghetto concept in the early 90's was so dope

i wonder what they are doing now...i know nick murray is busy with LAL, but where's roger aka mr attic

i remember going to that dude's house in brampton and just losing my mind at the amount of vinyl he had in there..i bought several records off him just because they had breaks on them...but i still play those records and don't regret it at all

there was an insane ice storm and my boy eric(the whitest guy ever) was driving his mom's hyundai and i swore we were going to die on the way back...but then again going to brampton even without an ice storm can conjure up that emotion

it might actually NOT rain tomorrow. i'll probably go practice wallrides on this jersey barrier by papineau on my baby

i haven't spent enough time on that bike at all since I got it...sucks that winter is about to come and i'll be a complete fool by the time spring comes around and won't even be able to bunnyhop anymore

cereal is NOT dinner

sneaker pimps montreal

next friday it's on
we just confirmed free heinekens in that biatch so get yerself out there to crunk out and drool over sneakers you can never have
it's gonna be off the backboard for rizzyeals

i heart ny

so last week i got flown down to sneaker pimps nyc to do an art installation with my homie specter from the kops crew

i got a free bus ride because i'm a baller..from montreal to burlington vermont(not really the most exciting place...lot more small townish than I ever expected in fact)
I had way too much time to kill there because of my free ride baller status so i tried to find a reasonable sandwich and half suceeded then dropped the bomb in a bookstore(the name of which eludes me right now)
my flight left from burlington straight to nueva york

i like to fly...short flights are so fresh.

long flights mess with my ears a lot which is so not zen about things and so if it's more than 2 hours I dread the landing and it makes the beginning of any new place less enjoyable

my trip was so dope...i swear if our shop was there but still in montreal at the same time it'd be amazing....none of this french indecision shit...

in nyc you like you cop

everyone is on the phone or nextel chirp telling each other where shoes are dropping...it's crazy. even the most hood people have better shoes than people who have money in montreal...not to make it seem like shoes are the only thing that makes a trip good for me...but at the same time the atmosphere is contagious

i missed my flight back (first time ever) but i actually didn't really try to make it...i knew that i was going to miss it as soon as i left the crib in brooklyn but yet I still went to stussy, patagonia, and went and had lunch with my man Geo from wellbred...i got a new hat from him...their first cut and sew piece...very fresh I'll take pics later for the world to see.

Also how everything is open late there is great....montreal could learn a lot from that...home depot in downtown manhattan open until 9pm...nothing better than having the option to go there later if you need to(which we did it was a total bailout in fact for our art install)

I got to see my friends and eat at a couple of my favourite spots so to me the trip was a smashing sucess even if I had to soldier it back on the bus for 8+ hours
